Dr. Carol Penn, D.O., M.A., FACCE, Dipl. ABOM is Board Certified in Family Medicine, Osteopathic Manipulative Medicine and Obesity Medicine.
Dr. Penn is currently a Staff Physician with Ocean Health Initiatives in Lakewood, NJ; Staff physician with Medimorphosis, Medical Weight Loss and most recently served as the Acting Medical Director for Quality Community Health Care, a Federally Qualified Health Center in Philadelphia. During her Residency in Family Medicine, she served as Chief Resident in Family Practice Medicine at St. Joseph’s Hospital/North Philadelphia Hospital System (2012-2013); National Health Corps Scholar; Clinical Assistant Professor in the Department of Family Medicine, Rowan University School of Osteopathic Medicine; Faculty, Center for Mind Body Medicine, Washington, DC; Mind Body Skills Group Facilitator; Nationally Certified Health, Wellness, and Fitness Coach (Wellcoaches Inc.); Nationally Certified Personal Trainer; (National Council on Strength and Fitness); Certified Yoga Instructor; member of the National QiGong Association; Reiki Master/Teacher; and Health Correspondent for WURD900 AM radio. Dr. Penn is a graduate of Rowan University School of Osteopathic Medicine (formerly University of Medicine and Dentistry, New Jersey, School of Osteopathic Medicine (UMDNJ/SOM).
Dr. Carol Penn is a physician specializing in Integrative Family Practice Medicine with a focus on mind body medicine; arts medicine; and nutrition medicine with an emphasis on prevention and wellness to optimize human potential. Additionally, Dr. Penn, has a strong interest in integrative approaches to palliative care medicine and is a published researcher in End of Life Care and Mind Body Medicine.
Equally passionate about holistic birthing practices, Dr. Penn served on the Board of Directors and Executive Committee of Lamaze International for 12 years and continues to teach prepared childbirth education classes to encourage and support families embracing self-care from the beginning of life.
Prior to beginning her career in medicine, Dr. Penn, an award winning choreographer, trained in New York City with the world renowned Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater as a performing artist and an educator. In the company’s acclaimed Children’s School, she applied her passion for healing, working with Ailey’s Visually Impaired Program for the Blind and Visually Impaired. Dr. Penn received her BS in Dance Education and MA in Humanities from New York University.
Dr. Penn was selected from a national pool of applicants to become a Teaching Fellow at the Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts in Washington, DC. While in DC she formed her company Pennvisions and The New Visions Dance Theater. She won numerous awards for her choreography, became tenured faculty in the DC Public Schools and served as International Consultant for the Kennedy Center’s Very Special Arts Program.
Dr. Penn is co-founder and director of The Core of Fire, an interfaith women’s dance ensemble. Living one’s life as if it is a masterpiece and a work of art is a message that she extends to her patients, her students, and her audiences. firstname.lastname@example.org
